When and where is registration?
Registration begins in December and goes until the middle of February. All returning players can
register online,or at one of our in person registrations. All new players must register in person.
How do we know when registration is open?
We will have updates as to when registration is opening and closing on our website, Facebook
page, through emails, and flyers sent home from school.
Why is there a late fee?
Registration is open for at least six weeks, starting in December, this provides ample time for
families to register their players. With approximately 350 players in our league it requires a lot of
time to prepare for the season.
We need to obtain proper insurance, charters, and field permits,
as well as assign teams, coaches, sponsors, order uniforms and make up schedules. Late fees
cover any additional administrative cost inccured with adding additional players/teams.
When does the season start/end?
Practices begin towards the end of March beginning of April, this depends on the weather and
the ability to get the fields ready. Games begin approximately the third week in April and go to the
middle of June.
When will I find out what team my child is on?
We normally have a coaches meeting in the middle of March. This is when the coaches receive
their rosters and will start contacting the players on their teams.
Can my son/daughter be on the same team as their friends?
You can make request in the comment section of the registration forms. In tee ball and single A
divisions we do are best to accommodate request but unfortunately we can not guarantee all request
will be granted. In majors and double A we will not accept any request. Both majors and
double A are competitive divisions, our main priority is to make each team as equally talented
as possible.
If my child was on a team previously will they be on that team next season?
No, although in the younger division we try and keep the teams the same each year as players
move up we may need to make adjustments to the rosters.
What equipment will my child need to play?
The league provides uniforms, catchers gear, practice and game balls. Players are required to
have their own;
- Baseball/Softball gloves
- Batting helmet with face mask(majors division does not require a face mask)
- Bats all baseball bats must have the USA bat stamp on it. The barrels can be either 2 ¼ or 2 ⅝
inch. Softball bats must have a BPF (bat performance factor) of 1.20.
As of May 3, 2018 Little League International decertified the Easton GhostX YBB18GX10 30/20
2 ⅝” (or the “Easton Ghost X 30/20 5/8 “ at retail).
- Cleats, they must be made of molded plastic not metal.
- Fielders mask for ALL softball players are highly recommended but not required.
Can my child use a C-flap on their batting helmet?
C-flap is not a substitute for a face mask. C-flaps maybe be used in the majors division but you
must have an approval letter from the helmet manufacturer stating they allow the use of a C-flap
on their helmets. These approval letters can be found on the Little League International
website.
What days are practices and games on?
Practices are scheduled by the individual coaches based on their availability and field availability.
Games are played throughout the week. Each team will generally play on game during the
week and one on Saturday. Game schedules are subject to change based on number of teams
field availability and weather. It is possible for rainouts to be played on Sundays.
How do I know if a practice or a game has been rainout?
Once Riverhead Little League decides a practice or game has been canceled due to bad
weather, we post it on Facebook, we also contact the coaches and it is up to the coaches to
contact their teams. You can also call the rainout number 727-5744 ext. 30.
How can a become a manager, coach, or an assistant coach?
Any person over the age of 18 can apply for any of these positions. You must contact the
league President or Coach Coordinator with your request. Then you must fill out the Little
League International volunteer application (this application must be filled out yearly). Once the
league reviews all applications and determines how many teams are in each division they will
assign coaches.
If I coached in previous seasons will I coach in the up coming season?
If you coached previously in the league that does not guarantee you will coach in the upcoming
season. You must contact the league President or Coach Coordinator as well as fill out the
volunteer application each year regardless of previous service in the league.
How do I become a sponsor?
Simply email riverheadlittleleague2@gmail.com to request become a sponsor. We have two
types of sponsors. The first is a team sponsor. These sponsor ships are a first come first serve
with the previous season sponsors getting preference. With a team sponsor you get your
company name on the back of a teams jersey, a banner with your logo hung on the outfield
fence throughout the season, a team plaque for your business and your companies information
on our website. The second type of sponsorship is a league sponsor. With this sponsorship you
get a banner with your company logo hung on the outfield fence throughout the season and
your companies information on our website.
